Submental Liposuction and FaceTite
Treatment overview
The double chin is fatty tissue or skin laxity under the chin that can be treated using a number of different techniques. There can often be a familial tendency to have a double chin. The most common reason for a double chin in younger patients is fatty tissue whilst in older patients this may be due to skin laxity. In Cheshire & Manchester double chin liposuction being the right option will depend on the reason for the double chin and patient.
The most common options for the treatment of the double chin include liposuction or neck lift. The double chin liposuction procedure helps remove fatty tissue from the area. This can be combined with some advanced technology options such as FaceTite or NeckTite for radiofrequency skin tightening. Vaser can also be used in the area to help assist the breakdown of the fatty tissue and provide some skin retraction. Patients with significant skin laxity will require other procedures such as a face and neck lift to improve the contour of the area. In Cheshire & Manchester double chin liposuction is performed under local anaesthetic as an outpatient in our clinic. You will have some injections to help numb the area initially. The liposuction device is used to remove the fatty tissue. This can be combined with the FaceTite or NeckTite device. This radiofrequency device heats the skin and can help tighten it. You will usually have some dressings applied and a compression garment is worn following the procedure.

Double chin liposuction, also known as submental liposuction, is a surgical procedure that removes excess fat from beneath the chin and along the jawline. It is performed using fine cannulas through small, discreetly placed incisions under the chin and sometimes behind the ears. The procedure improves the cervicomental angle (the angle between chin and neck) and creates a sharper, more defined jawline. It can be performed as a standalone treatment or combined with FaceTite or NeckTite radiofrequency skin tightening to address mild to moderate skin laxity at the same time.
The best candidates for double chin liposuction are individuals with excess fatty tissue beneath the chin who have good skin elasticity. Younger patients typically have a double chin caused predominantly by fat, making liposuction highly effective. Older patients or those with a familial tendency to a double chin may also have some degree of skin laxity, in which case combining the liposuction with FaceTite or NeckTite may produce a better result. Patients with significant skin laxity may be better suited to a neck lift or facelift. Mr. Nassab will assess your individual anatomy, fat distribution, and skin quality at your consultation to recommend the most appropriate treatment.
The procedure begins with tumescent local anaesthetic infiltrated into the submental area to numb it and reduce bleeding. Small access incisions are then made — typically one under the chin and sometimes small ones behind the ears. A fine liposuction cannula is inserted and used to gently remove the submental fat. If FaceTite or NeckTite is being combined, the radiofrequency device is applied at this stage to heat and tighten the overlying skin. The incisions are then closed with sutures, and a compression garment is fitted. The procedure is performed as an outpatient or day case under local anaesthetic.
Yes — and this combination is one of Mr. Nassab's most popular approaches for patients with a double chin. FaceTite and NeckTite are minimally invasive radiofrequency devices that deliver controlled heat energy to the underside of the skin, stimulating collagen production and causing gradual skin tightening. When combined with liposuction, they address both the excess fat and any mild to moderate skin laxity simultaneously, producing a more refined result than liposuction alone. The skin tightening effect continues to develop over several months following the procedure. Vaser liposuction can also be used alongside these techniques to help break down fat and provide additional skin retraction.
After the procedure, you will have some dressings applied and a compression garment fitted around the chin and neck. It is normal to experience swelling and bruising, which may increase slightly over the first few days before beginning to resolve. Some firmness in the treated area is also common and will gradually improve over the following months. Most patients feel comfortable returning to a desk-based job within a few days to one week. Strenuous exercise and activities that raise blood pressure to the head are generally avoided for two to four weeks. Mr. Nassab and the team provide detailed written aftercare instructions and schedule follow-up appointments to monitor your progress.
Following double chin liposuction, the compression garment should be worn throughout the day and night for the first week. After this initial period, it is worn at night only for a further six weeks. The compression garment plays an important role in reducing swelling, supporting the skin as it retracts, and helping to achieve a smooth, even contour as you heal. Mr. Nassab will provide specific guidance on garment care and when you can reduce or stop wearing it based on your individual progress at your follow-up appointments.
You will notice an improvement in chin and jawline definition relatively early as the initial swelling begins to settle, though the area will still appear swollen in the first weeks. A noticeable improvement is typically visible within four to six weeks. The final results — including any skin tightening from FaceTite or NeckTite — are seen between six and twelve months following the procedure, as swelling fully resolves and the skin continues to contract and improve. Maintaining a stable weight helps preserve the long-term outcome.
The incisions used in double chin liposuction are very small — typically a few millimetres in length — and are placed in discreet locations, most commonly in the natural skin crease beneath the chin and sometimes just behind the ears. These small scars heal extremely well for the vast majority of patients and are virtually invisible once fully healed. They continue to fade and soften over 12–18 months. Mr. Nassab will discuss incision placement with you at your consultation and advise on scar management.
As with any surgical procedure, double chin liposuction carries a risk of complications. These include bleeding and haematoma (blood collection), infection, wound healing problems, asymmetry, contour irregularities or indentations, skin laxity or skin folds, sensory changes or numbness, nerve injury (temporary or permanent), pigmentation changes, and failure to improve to the desired degree. If FaceTite or NeckTite is combined, there is also a small risk of skin burns from the radiofrequency energy. Individual responses to surgery vary, and results may change over time with age and weight fluctuation. Mr. Nassab will discuss your individual risk profile in detail at your consultation.
