A breast lift (mastopexy) is a surgical procedure that reshapes and elevates sagging breasts by removing excess skin and repositioning the nipple and areola to a higher, more youthful position. It is commonly performed after pregnancy, breastfeeding, significant weight loss, or simply as a result of the natural ageing process. Some patients also choose to combine a breast lift with implants — augmentation mastopexy — for added volume, or with a reduction to reduce size at the same time. Mr Nassab will assess your breast shape, degree of ptosis (drooping), and nipple position at consultation to advise the most appropriate technique.

Treatment Overview
A breast lift, also known as mastopexy, is a surgical procedure that aims to lift and reshape sagging breasts. Over time, factors such as pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight fluctuations, and the natural aging process can cause breasts to lose their firmness and elasticity. A breast lift can reverse these effects, providing you with a more youthful and perky breast appearance. Some patients with larger breasts may require some removal of tissue which is referred to as a breast reduction. Others may not have much volume and so may decide to have an implant to provide more fullness as well as an uplift and this is called an augmentation mastopexy. At Reza Nassab Plastic Surgery in Cheshire & Manchester breast lifts are performed under a general anaesthetic and are usually performed as a day case. During the procedure, excess skin is removed, and the underlying breast tissue is reshaped and lifted. The nipple and areola may be repositioned to achieve a more natural and aesthetically pleasing result.

Specialist Breast Surgery Expertise
Mr Nassab is an FRCS (Plast)-qualified Consultant Plastic Surgeon and full member of BAAPS and BAPRAS. He has performed hundreds of breast procedures including mastopexy, augmentation mastopexy, and breast reduction, bringing both surgical precision and an experienced aesthetic eye to every result.
Personalised Scar Planning
Mastopexy scar pattern is not one-size-fits-all. Mr Nassab chooses between anchor (Wise pattern), vertical (lollipop), and peri-areolar (donut) incisions based on your degree of ptosis, breast volume, and skin quality. You will understand exactly what to expect from your scars before you commit to surgery.
Combined Procedures Available
A breast lift can be combined with implants (augmentation mastopexy) for added volume and elevation, or with a reduction to decrease breast size. Combining procedures in a single operation means one anaesthetic and one recovery period — Mr Nassab will advise what is best for your anatomy at consultation.
Thorough Risk & Complication Counselling
Mr Nassab provides a comprehensive, honest assessment of all risks associated with mastopexy — including scarring, changes in nipple sensation, asymmetry, and future changes with age or pregnancy. His consent process ensures you are fully informed before making any decision.

A breast lift can reverse the effects of sagging, giving your breasts a more youthful and uplifted look.
By reshaping the breast tissue, a breast lift can enhance your overall breast contour, creating a more balanced and proportional appearance.
Many women find that a breast lift not only improves their physical appearance but also boosts their self-esteem and confidence.
With a lifted and firmer bustline, you’ll have a wider range of clothing options available, allowing you to wear outfits that flatter your figure.
The risks and complications associated with the uplift/reduction surgery which include: bleeding; haematoma; bruising; swelling; asymmetry in size, shape, nipple position; nipple loss, risks being higher in smokers; change in sensation to the nipple; further drooping or ptosis in time; wound breakdown; delay in healing; fat or skin necrosis; abnormal scarring such as hypertrophic or keloid; seroma; bottoming out; changes with time, weight, and pregnancy; inability to breast feed; risks of thrombosis; and, general anaesthetic risks. We have also discussed the scarring involved with this procedure and that includes scarring around the nipple, underneath the breast and vertically down the centre of the breast.
We have to warn you that you may not be able to breast feed after having a breast lift procedure.
I would recommend waiting for 6 weeks before flying long haul. This is to ensure that everything has settled and there are likely to be no problems prior to flying. You may be able to travel short haul after 2 weeks but you will still need to wear your support bra for 6 weeks following surgery.
The normal recommendation is 6 weeks for strenuous physical activity. Exercising earlier may cause increases in blood pressure and heart rate that may increase the risk of bleeding.
Patients are advised to wear a support bra for the first 6 weeks following breast lift. The support bra should ideally have a zip at the front for easier changing. After the 6 weeks, you should be able to wear normal under-wired bras again. We recommend wearing a good supportive bra as much as possible to reduce further drooping with time.
The scars are usually around the nipple, vertically downwards and underneath the breast in an anchor pattern.
The cost of the procedure will vary slightly according to where it is performed. The prices start from £11500. To find out more information about the cost of breast lift Manchester & Cheshire patients should book a consultation with Mr Nassab.

A breast lift, medically known as mastopexy, is a surgical procedure that reshapes and elevates sagging or drooping breasts. It works by removing excess skin, tightening the surrounding tissue, and repositioning the nipple and areola to a higher, more youthful position. It does not significantly change the size of the breasts — if you also want more volume, a combined augmentation mastopexy may be recommended. If you want smaller breasts, a combined breast reduction mastopexy may be appropriate.
Good candidates for mastopexy are women who experience sagging or drooping of the breasts (ptosis), often following pregnancy, breastfeeding, significant weight loss, or the natural effects of ageing. Key indicators include nipples that point downward or sit below the breast crease, breasts that have lost firmness or volume, or stretched areolas. You should be in good general health, a non-smoker (or willing to stop), and have realistic expectations about the results and the scars involved.
There are three main mastopexy techniques, chosen based on the degree of ptosis and the amount of excess skin to be removed. The peri-areolar (donut) lift uses an incision around the edge of the areola and is suitable for mild ptosis. The vertical (lollipop) lift adds a vertical incision from the areola to the breast crease and is used for moderate ptosis. The anchor (Wise pattern) lift also includes a horizontal incision along the breast crease and is used for more significant ptosis. Mr Nassab will advise which is most appropriate for your anatomy.
Mastopexy always involves visible scars — this is an important consideration when deciding whether to proceed. Scars are typically around the areola, vertically downward from the areola to the breast crease, and along the breast crease (in the anchor pattern). Initially scars appear pink and raised, but they fade and flatten over 12–18 months with appropriate scar management. Mr Nassab will discuss your specific scar pattern and provide scar management guidance post-operatively.
Yes. Augmentation mastopexy combines breast implants for volume with a lift to address drooping — achieving results that neither procedure alone can provide. It is particularly suitable for patients who have lost both volume and firmness, for example after pregnancy and breastfeeding. This is technically more demanding than either procedure alone, requiring careful balancing of implant weight against the lift. Mr Nassab will assess whether this combination is appropriate for your anatomy at consultation.
There is a risk that breastfeeding may not be possible following a breast lift. The procedure involves repositioning the nipple and areola and reshaping the underlying breast tissue, which can affect the milk ducts and nerves. If you plan to have children in the future and wish to breastfeed, this is an important consideration to discuss with Mr Nassab at your consultation. In some cases, it may be advisable to delay surgery until your family is complete.
Most patients experience mild discomfort, swelling, and bruising in the first week, which gradually subsides. You should wear a supportive bra at all times for the first 6 weeks following surgery. Most patients return to desk-based work within 1–2 weeks. Strenuous exercise, heavy lifting, and activities that raise your heart rate significantly should be avoided for 6 weeks. After 6 weeks you may resume wearing underwired bras. Mr Nassab recommends wearing a good supportive bra regularly long-term to minimise future drooping.
Mr Nassab recommends waiting at least 6 weeks before flying long haul after a breast lift, to ensure everything has settled and to reduce DVT risk. Short-haul flights may be possible from around 2 weeks post-surgery, provided you wear your support bra throughout. Always seek Mr Nassab's specific clearance before travelling, as individual recovery can vary, particularly if additional procedures were performed at the same time.
As with all surgical procedures, mastopexy carries risks. These include bleeding and haematoma formation, infection, wound breakdown, delayed healing, fat or skin necrosis, asymmetry in size, shape, or nipple position, change in or loss of nipple sensation, abnormal scarring (hypertrophic or keloid), seroma, further drooping with time, inability to breastfeed, and general anaesthetic risks. Risks are higher in smokers. Mr Nassab will discuss all relevant risks in detail at your consultation and provide a comprehensive consent process.
